The vine can be 4–6 m long. The young non-fertile shoots are edible, but fertile shoots with sporan¬gia (~ rwàay) are not. When the women are weeding the fields, they may find edible shoots. They pick them and keep in a basket. When they come home they make a stew with dried meat, chilli and salt.
