Compounds
This task consists of phrases in Swedish, which the speaker translates into Övdalian. The aim is to see whether some Swedish phrases (e.g. 'den nya bilen' = 'the new car') is translated as a compound noun in Övdalian (e.g. 'ny-biln' = 'new-car-DEF'). Once the list is translated, the speaker and the researcher discuss the Övdalian phrases or words to probe deeper into the nuances of compounding in Övdalian.
Man and tree
Sessions using the "Man and tree" stimuli. (The version I have used was created by Ann Senghas, using Playmobil figures.) "The Man and Tree task deals with location on the horizontal plane with both featured (man) and non-featured (e.g., tree) objects." Photo matching
The stimuli for this Director–Matcher task ("PhotoMatching") is 10 photographs showing landscape in Älvdalen and Northern Sweden. The Director describes one photograph at a time, and the Matcher's task is to pick the picture which is being described. Afterwards, the speakers and the researcher discuss the photographs ("PhotoDiscussion") to find more details than the ones mentioned in the matching. (In some cases, only the latter task was done together with one speaker.)
Positional verbs
Sessions using the "Positional verbs" stimuli. "The task focuses on the exploration of the predicative component of topological expressions (e.g., ‘the cassavas are lying in the basket’), especially the contrastive elicitation of positional verbs." Put and Take
Sessions using the "Put and Take" video stimuli. "The goal of this task is to explore cross-linguistic universality and variability in the semantic categorisation of placement events (e.g., ‘putting a cup on the table’)." Route descriptions
"Route description" is a Director-Matcher task using a drawn map with a marked route on it. The Director's task is to describe the route to the Matcher, and the Matcher then fills in the route with a pen. There are four versions of the map, each one having a different route on it. This task is meant to elicit semi-spontaneous speech which focuses on prepositions and landscape terms. (The session RouteDesc_26 was done with just one speaker, who looked at the routes and described them to the researcher.)
Topological relations
Sessions using the "Topological relations picture series" stimuli (a.k.a. "BowPed"). "This task is designed to elicit expressions of spatial relations."
